Equipment
- Presence of cages installed by Ports of Galicia in selected ports for the exclusive accumulation of gillnets (polyamide).

- The polyamide nets are placed into the designated cages, as they are the only ones that have value.
- There is no specific collection system for small pieces of nets.
- The removal of nets, other than gill nets, is handled by the Chicolino company.
- A proper net management system has not been implemented in the ports managed by Ports of Galicia.

Reuse
- The boats are equipped with big bags (1m3) or baskets.
- The fishermen manually unload the waste once in port and place the WIF (Waste from Incidental Fishing) into specific 800L containers voluntarily provided by the Mares Circulares initiative.

- The waste is characterized at the port once a month by members of the Mares Circulares initiative.
- Collection occurs periodically every 15 days, except on certain occasions when it is conducted on demand.

Passive fishing for litter

- The port is involved in a Fishing for Litter scheme under Mares Circulares project, managed by Vertidos Cero Association?
- The boats are equipped with big bags (1m3) or baskets, in accordance with their gross tonnage.
- Artisanal vessels unload manually, whereas trawlers discharge using their own onboard equipment. Once ashore, the waste is placed the PFW in designated 800L containers provided by the project. There are two disposal points: one for artisanal vessels and one for trawlers.
- The waste is characterised at the port once a month by members of the Mares Circulares initiative.
- Collection occurs periodically every 15 days, except on certain occasions when it is conducted on demand.
- The company Reciclados Plásticos A Cañiza is responsible for removing the waste to its facilities, where tonnage control is conducted.

Constraints
- The first waste reception plan has not yet been approved.
- No specific port staff is assigned; the reception and handling of waste are carried out by the fishermen from the docking boats themselves.
- Budget limitations presents a constraint.
- There is a noted indifference and irresponsibility among citizens and port staff regarding the disposal of general waste.
Bests practices et objectives
- The Vertidos Cero Association and the participating guilds are responsible for communication regarding waste management within the port.
Objectives:
- Training is planned to be provided to companies on the collection of both their own waste and passive fishing waste.
- Additional awareness and training campaigns should be conducted.
